Problem

Our climate in the southeastern region of the United States is ideal for eastern subterranean termites. It is estimated that two subterranean termite colonies exist beneath every average size home. Protecting homes from termite damage is the responsibility of every prudent homeowner.

Left undetected, this termite tirelessly attacks your home 24/7, causing dangerous and costly structural damage. Subterranean termites tunnel their way through wooden members, such as timbers in the structure of a house, as they search for and consume cellulose, the material found in the plant cells of wood. They are most likely to attack from beneath the structure, gaining access through the smallest cracks and imperfections in the foundation. As a rule, subterranean termites travel above ground for food (cellulose) and underground for moisture. A termite mud tunnel found between the soil and wood construction of your home is a sign of infestation.

    Three Step Process
    1. Inspection
Determining whether an active termite infestation is present is step one. A thorough inspection of the crawl space, exterior foundation, interior wood trim and attic must be made to determine if visible evidence of termites exists.

    2. Modification
Removing wood debris in crawl spaces, lowering soil grade levels, contacting the wood siding, replacing pipe leaks, sky light leaks, chimney leaks, ample crawl space ventilation and removing stucco/soil contact are examples of some of the things we evaluate.

    3. Treatment
This is required for active infestations as well as prevention of infestation. As previously mentioned, Island Pest Control uses baits, liquids or sometimes a combination of both for the control and elimination of this ever-present insect.
